Used Furniture Emerging: The form of the chest of drawers and cabinet changed very little until around 1720, when Mahogany imported from Cuba and Honduras began to be used Furniture emerging in the manufacture of the finest pieces of furniture. Books illustrating furniture exhibited at the Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1851 in London, at the Universelle Exposition of 1867 in Paris, as well as books, Furniture trade papers and magazine articles on each successive furni¬ture style, were liberally used Furniture Exposition by American de¬signers for new ideas. The final English im¬pact on American Furniture occurred when Charles L. Eastlake, an architect, wrote Hints on Household Taste in Furniture, Upholstery and Other Details.The Furniture designer is well known, but the architect will be a new acquaintance to most people. It is 70 years since Bruno Mathsson had his first separate exhibition at the Roehss Museum of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg (Göteborg). Mathsson's Furniture caught both European and American eyes following its international breakthrough at the 1937 International Exposition in Paris. |
