Modern Machinery: Parts of the covered area can be used for different purposes in the course of the year; for example for housing stock at one time and maintaining machinery at another. For dairy cows, the cowshed has bee'n replaced by an open area with individual cubicles for lying down, a loafing area and a bulk feeding area. With the aid of modern machinery, cows are milked in a parlour adjoining the dairy to which the milk is subsequently piped, and concentrated rations may be automatically allocated to each cow by computer.Although installation of machinery after launching is still common, up-to-date practice requires installation prior to the launch. Hence, orders for boilers, condensers, turbines, gears, shafting, and propellers, along with auxiliaries, are placed early in the shipbuilding process so that they will be available when the hull is ready to receive them. While the larger yards are equipped to build their own machinery, it often happens that such equipment is ordered from other firms specializing in certain items. In fact, the modern tendency, with certain notable exceptions, is for shipyards to become builders of hulls and installers, rather than manufacturers, of machin¬ery and outfit components. See Also Modern Miracle:Visby presents a miracle play by Josef Lundahl called Petrus de Dacia (July and August) in the ruins of the medieval St. Nicholas Church. The drama, with music by Friedrich Mehler, tells a moving story of a Gotland prior who was smitten by a too-earthly love for a miracle-working woman named Christina.Air safety, in these days, is a modern miracle and one can make this strong assertion without any ostrich effort to avoid seeing crash headlines in the press. Aviation accidents have a special fascination for headline writers, which is quite natural because of the dramatic suddenness of such disasters. But let's take a plane's-eye view of Europe and ask ourselves a candid question or two.
On The Other Hand See Common Modern Muckrakers:Though interested mostly in writing edi¬torialized commentaries, some of these writers had much in common modern muckrakers with modern muckrakers or gossip columnists. Along with these gifted literary wits were many printers and hacks who also used newspapers and periodicals as mouth¬pieces for their personal views. The development of both newspapers and magazines continued throughout Europe.Modern Physical Types. A number of diverse hysical types are found in Ireland. Red hair, a scessive trait, is found in only 4% of the popula-on. A longheaded, light-eyed type with dark air is more common modern muckrakers in Ireland than in other opulations and is a Celtic heritage. A long-eaded, dark-haired Irish type with medium to ark eyes is so common modern muckrakers elsewhere in northern iurope that it may descend from prehistoric eoples, probably of Neolithic or Early Bronze ge origin. Viking, Norman, and English types re not easily distinguished among the very iked modern population. |
