Modern Industrial: One of the major modern industrial medical problems is the preservation of the health of industrial workers, including miners, factory workers, and other employees exposed to un¬usual health hazards as a result of the environ¬ments in which they work. The discipline that applies the techniques of engineering, chemistry, physics, and medicine to protect the health of industrial workers is known as industrial hygiene. The chief industrial health hazards are the occupational diseases most commonly caused by dusts, fumes, vapors, gases, irritating chemicals, and abnormal physical conditions associated with industrial environments.Between 1963 and 1969 industrial output rose by about 40% in the majority of industrial countries (by 100% in Japan), but in the United Kingdom the increase was only 18$. In consider¬ing these comparative performances, however, one must realize that, in contrast to most other industrial countries, the United Kingdom pos¬sessed no large reserve of labor available for transference from agriculture or other low-pro¬ductivity occupations to modern industrial industry. See Also Through Modern Design:FROM INDOORS, the view through modern design the windows into the garden is at least as important as the view from any vantage point outside. Your garden design must therefore include views that look tempting from inside, from the rooms where you spend most time. If you are lucky enough to look out over open rural views or a fine cityscape, make sure the garden design blends with the background. A Rustic garden-style design is much more suitable for a rural area than a modern design, in the same way as a modern design will look better in an urban area.Woodworkers of the 20th century developed "modern" design. This includes designing pieces to fit their purposes, that is, functionalism; and avoidance of excess bulk of line and the use of minimum materials. Functionalism plus beauty is the essence of good modern design. The trend in woodworking today is toward revival of the Eng¬lish Regency, German Biedermeier, and French Directoire styles, while the Danish, Oriental, and International Modern styles also occupy places of importance. The traditional styles take on a new look through modern design a blending of the best from each period.
On The Other Hand See Use Modern Workshops:The Wagner-O'Day Act of 1938 required that federal departments buy a variety of products made in workshops for the blind. Prices for these products are set by a committee appointed by the president. In the mid-1960's there were 76 state-supported and private, sheltered workshops em¬ploying about 5,000 Blind persons. Workshops provide training for industrial work as well as employment for those who cannot advance for reasons odier than blindness. In addition to making house modern workshopshold items, toys, and clothing, many workshops subcontract with industrial firms to make or package commercial products. The use modern workshops of heavy machinery in the restoration workshop is fairly limited. In fact, not many restoration workshops will have the space for a fully fitted machine shop, especially as the heavier types often require three-phase electricity supplies. (This involves installing a unit to boost the power from single to three phase, and is usually needed only in commercial workshops.) However, the inclusion of certain heavy machines can make life much easier, and two invaluable machines are the band saw and the lathe. |
